Imagine walking in the old town on Nafplio, amongst buildings that date back hundreds of years or enjoying a glass of white wine in a wine field, surrounded by nature and the colors of dusk.

Shades of Blue is a small drive from the Kiveri town located just 15 minutes outside Nafplio. If you are starting from Athens don’t forget to stop at Isthmus of Corinth, a narrow land bridge that connects the Peloponesse with the mainland of Greece and a manmade canal that connects the Saronic Gulf to the Gulf of Corinth. Before arriving at Kiveri, stop at Nafplio, which used to be the capital of the first Hellenic Republic. At Nafplio you will find landmarks like the fortress of Palamidi, built on a 216-metre high hill and in order to reach the top you need to climb 913 steps.

Paralio Astros

Paralio Astros is a port serving the inland town of Astros, Arcadia, Greece. It is part of the municipality North Kynouria and is considered a traditional settlement. As of 2011, the port had 1,043 permanent inhabitants.
Paralio Astros possesses beaches and a harbour (renovated in 2015) which can accommodate small ships.

Ideal for a nice walk along the traditional port, by the sea. The taverns, restaurants and bars cater to every taste, with the lighthouse and fishing boats in the background. The bars and cafes with music and pleasant environment offer from a small enjoyment of coffee, to an impressive evening composing the completion of a beautiful experience and unique memory (15′ from Shades of blue, 11.5km)

Astros – the Castle

Paralio Astros Castle is a medieval castle located on the top of Paralio Astros hill, a few kilometers outside of Astros.The castle, was built in 1256 by the ruler of the Principality of Achaia, to subdue the Tsakonians who inhabited the area. The castle was called “Castello della Estella”, that is, the Castle of Asterios, because of the asteroid peninsula on which it was built. In 1465, during the first Venetian-Turkish war, the castle was handed over to the Venetian governor of Nafplio.In the following years the castle declined and the medieval fortifications collapsed.
In the period of 1821, wealthy foreign merchants, fortified the castle and built their houses there. On August 4, 1826, 1,200 soldiers locked inside the castle defeated the numerous army of Ibrahim who besieged it. In 1833, Panos Zafiropoulos (Akouros) dedicated the castle to the Kingdom of Greece and to King Otto (26′ from Shades of blue, 20.9km)

Argos – Skouras Winery

The Winery of Skouras Estate is a state-of-the-art winery amidst vineyards, with a purely Greek architecture designed specifically to serve two purposes:
– the perfect wine-making process, with a very high standard at all stages of wine production, bottling, ripening and preservation

Nafplio

One of the prettiest towns in Greece and first capital of the country in modern history (1828-1833). The old town has been declared an archaeological site and is protected as part of the Greek Cultural Heritage. Significant harbour of Greece and the Mediterranean and favorite destination for the citizens of Athens and the entire Peloponnese due to its proximity to the capital. Nafplio – Palamidi

The fort of the Palamidi, which has been preserved in excellent condition, is one of the greatest achievements of Venetian fortification architecture. The hill of Palamidi, takes its name from theHomeric hero Palamidis and it was from the Palamidi that the liberation of the city from the Turks began, after a long siege. On the night of 29th November 1822, a unit of Greek rebels, led by Staikos Staikopoulos, launched a surprise attack and seized the Palamidi. Dimitrios Moschonisiotis was the first to set foot inside the fort from the bastion of Achilles (28′ from Shades of blue, 23.7km)

Nafplio – Fortess of Bourtzi

Theislet of Bourtzi, situated at the entrance of the bay of Nafplio, was fortifird by the first Venetian rulers of Argolis (1389-1540). The fortess was built by the architect and sculptor Antonio Gambello and is a typical example of the Italian Renaissance military architecture, bearing all the defining features of a massive defensive structure, intended to repel invaders and to withstand siege.

However, in 1715 the castle fell to the Ottoman Turks and since then, both the fortress and the Islet have been known by their Turkish name Bourtzi, meaning tower. Only a year after the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence, in 1822, the Greeks regained Bourtzi and the town of Nafplio, which became the seat of the first provisional government of the revolted Greek nation(22′ from Shades of blue, 18.9km)

Nafplio – Ancient Tyrins

Tiryns is a city of Argolis in the Peloponnese. Archaeological excavations in the area were carried out in the period 1884-1885 by Henry Schliemann, who brought to light ancient Tyrinth and its famous “Cyclopean” walls, which, according to legend, were built by the Cyclops themselves. The first mythical king of the city was Prithos, brother of Akrisius, king of Argos. In mythology, the king of Tiryns, Eurystheus, ordered the labors of the hero Hercules. Tiryns was completely destroyed by the Arians in the 5th century BC. and its population was exiled (22′ from Shades of blue, 18.9km)

Mycenae Archaeological Museum

One of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, a stunning megalithic monument of world cultural heritage. Mycenae has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Ancient Epidaurus

The birthplace of the legendary Greek physician Asclepius, the archaeological site includes the famous ancient theater with the perfect acoustics to heal the patients of Asclepius. The Asklepieion Clinic – famous in antiquity, brought together people from all over the Mediterranean, the holy temple of God Apollo. Every summer the Epidaurus International Festival is held with the participation of Greek and foreign theater companies and other artists. The monument is included in its list of World Heritage Sites OF UNESCO (45′ from Shades of blue, 46km)
